School Net

Schools all over Washington have become weather stations as part
of the KING 5 First Alert School Net. Each school has sensors
that gather local weather information and store it on a computer
at the school.
Several times each day, a computer at KING 5 logs into the school
computers to get that weather information, sharing it with the
National Weather Service and the University of Washington.
In the past, weather forecasts and reports were based on information
from only a few sites around Washington, often far from residential
areas.
The School Net stations help meteorologists better understand
local weather, close to where people live, work and play.
